wear your shoes till the soles come off. you don’t need a new shirt. STOP mindlessly consuming things!!! enough!!! go sit outside for 10 minutes and think about if you are actually lacking anything material in your life (you’re probably not). if you do need new things have a thing-exchange with your friends it’s so fun! stop falling victim to overconsumption
I took this at the Chelsea flea when I visited New york, and when I look back to how much I just spent today on thrifting alone, I wonder how the appeal of low cost one of a kind—kinda causes people to overconsume. “Trinkets” are becoming a trend now and it befuzzles me as someone who has been collecting little nothings since I was a lamb, and I wonder how it can turn into hoarding fast.
a big pet peeve I have is people complaining about not having community or only having “party friends” etc BUT are they inviting their existing friends or acquaintances to go out for dinner, go thrifting, watch tv, book club, people watch, day trip, mulberry picking? no, they are not. are they introducing their friends to each other? also not. i hate to be a cliché sometimes you gotta put some work into having the relationships you long for. plus: you’re part of the problem. AND have some appreciation for the friends you have instead of focusing so much in what you don’t.
Nothing annoys me more about the American culture than the lack of enthusiasm. If I invite you to go somewhere and your answer is “sure” or “why not”, I’m taking it back. I do not wanna be surrounded by indifferent people. It’s unworthy.
