a perfect record start to finish. equal parts sunny and subdued, has a 60s softness through a 90s lens. dominique durand’s voice is so soothing - sterolab-ish. i could listen to ā€while we’re in loveā€œ on repeat

The remaining members of fan faves Ivy (husband and wife Andy Chase/Dominique Durand) have released a previously unheard outtake from 1997's "Apartment Life," produced by another fave of mine, Lloyd Cole (who also plays some guitar on the track). It's fantastic and I can't believe we haven't heard it until now. If guitar-based, French-accented indie-pop makes you feel some kinda way, you need to give this a listen now. The band’s 2000 albumĀ Long DistanceĀ is also about to get a reissue, which means we’ll soon get to hear a bunch of unearthed gems from those days. The 25th anniversary vinyl reissue will feature three bonus tracks, including this gem, while the digital also tacks on a demo of the hit ā€œEdge Of The Oceanā€ to go along with the remix that’s also included. If you love the late, great Adam Schlesinger as much as I do, you'll also dig the video tribute that Dominique and Andy have put up on the YouTubes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8xISJVl4lQ

do yourself a favor and give it a listen this album is, to me, nearly flawless front to back. it turns 20 this year and feels easily like something that could’ve been released in the past couple of months first listened to it all the way through after hearing subzero fun at the river nyc last summer and it’s become a fav ever since ā™„ļø

while it’s almost impossible for me to pick a fav record of theirs, this one might be my most played. almost no drums which leaves ample space for robin guthrieā€˜s gooey reverb guitar and elizabeth fraser’s vocals to fill the space. i can’t help but feel instantly hypnotized whenever this song comes on, equal parts ethereal, spooky, whimsical, and heavy. despite not knowing what her lyrics actually mean you can’t help but intuitively understand the vibe
