an excellent novel β it explores the violence and exploitation and treachery within the carceral system, the slippery slope of complacency, queer love, prison abolition, and more. those descriptors may not be very alluring but the right people will still pick it up.
I started this book 3 days ago and I'm not even halfway in but it's SO good. TW obviously for violence (of literally every kind) but this book is singlehandedly making me excited about reading again
so damn good. currently reading the lady in the lake and man it rips. I love the sense of humor, the descriptions , the storytellin. read some of James Cain earlier this year. even though these works are almost a century old the themes feel v relevant & human.
I recommend the book Rosario Tijeras by Jorge Franco. It's about a girl who gets raped in MedellΓn, Colombia in the 90's. As payback she cuts the balls of her rapist with scissors and grows up to be a hitwoman and a prostitute. It's a critique to Colombian society in the 90's due to the absurd amounts of violence. The book has everything. Action, a love triangle, a woman doomed by her circumstances. It reads like a movie, really.
