Been making studio playlists every few months to keep track of songs I’ve been into, and that have inspired me creatively. after making these I record them onto cassette, design, print, and construct the O-Cards and place them in my collection. Nice way to return back to ritual of music and it’s not longer just in my phone or computer

during college I was a dj on my school’s radio station and I had the best time making weekly playlists for my shift. It was really special bc sometimes people would call in and compliment the songs or make requests. Very pure thing.

I have been making monthly playlists for the past 4 and a half years, I do not skip months. They have been the most consistent tracking of my life over this time. There are a few rules, no full albums can be added and no songs can be repeated from past playlists. They range from 10 to 30 songs. I can tell how I was doing based on the number of songs and how congealed the musical narrative is. At this point they are habit, I make them to listen to during each month but I also make them to look back on. Producing a nostalgia for each month of each year. There are no overarching themes and these playlists decentralize my music taste, the yearly review lacks month to month consistency.

Sometimes there's a specific *sound* that i can't quite put my finger on, but i love it.
Any time that happens, I whack the song in a playlist, give it a vague name, and find a photo that matches.
No rush, no time limit, keep it hidden until you're happy with it. I think an hour to an hour and a half is perfect for these. Kind of makes it feel like a homemade cassette mix.
Sort of want to go an extra step further and make actual mixtapes.
