I can never talk enough about Mary Lattimore's music. She's such a genius, and her vision and artistry is everything. She's been the soundtrack to my life since around 2015. I remember discovering her when I was on holiday in Rome and it was just so fitting. I've been returning to her music every now and again, and I’m always surprised with how she can make me feel so in touch with my humanity.
Recently, I've been listening to her 2016 album, Music Inspired, by Philip Garrel’s La Révélateur and it's just haunting.

The former Helium and Ex-Hex frontwoman (she's been in Autoclave and Wild Flag too) has a new solo album out.
I have been a fan of Mary's for so long, I saw Helium way back (I think they were touring with her ex-boyfriend/bandmate's other band, Polvo) and the experience was galvanizing.
This is a song about persevering even after you've lost it all. The string arrangements add a tinge of sadness, like R.E.M.'s "Nightswimming" does. It's the sound of driving across a desert, having lost the people you love and waking to the feeling that your future is a giant, wide-open blank space.
Not all guitar heroes wear capes. And Mary is definitely one of those.

A severely underrated legend and lyrical genius. She also is a visual artist and mother - so she can basically do it all and I find this very inspiring.
Her storytelling is unmatched. My favorite album of hers is Alas I Cannot Swim (which I’ve linked), however she has quite a bit of really great music to check out. Her upcoming album, Patterns in Repeat, comes out in October.

this is the one. I had always liked music, but there was something about this sound that really hooked me. it really steered me onto the path of electronic pop and shaped my taste from then on out.
little me didn't know the sample then–but this ABBA sample and instrumental are still one of the best of all time.
(also yes, it still bangs. that era of electronic pop... sexyback had me in a chokehold too.)
