my friend recommended his song āCarthageā to me a couple years ago and since then, his nameās been on my radar but i never really took the time to properly dive into his discography until tonight. the weather getting cooler here has me craving the lush and warm sonic landscape of guitar music and this album is just what iāve been looking for. itās some of the most magical music iāve heard in a long time⦠i also recommend wholeheartedly thanking your friends for music recommendations that you really resonate with, even if you listen to it years after they recommend it, and even if thanking them sounds or seems sappy. recommending music is such a special and sacred thing and i always like to hear when someone connects with something iāve sent them, whether i talk to this person every day or once every few years. sharing music is choosing to love and we should spread that love all around, all the time <3
Okay, I just HAVE TO share my thoughts on the new Alex G album⦠The summer before 8th grade, an internet friend of mine (we met through the fan page I ran for The Gardenš) posted about how much she loved Alex and specifically his song Sandy. I went to Alexās Bandcamp and started with the first track listed, Joy. I instantly fell in love and listened to his entire discography at the time. I had never heard music like that before, which opened up an entirely new musical world for me. I have an obsessive personality, so as a teen I was biggg fan girl, almost unhealthy⦠I wanted to know everything about him, gather all the lore, read every interview, and watch every video posted on YouTube (which I successfully did until he gained more recognition). This was before he released Rocket.Ā I joined an Alex discord server and met some of the most important people in my life at the time. No better feeling than bonding with other high schoolers across the country over our love for music! We met each other irl and traveled at least once a year to visit each other. I started a record label with them and met my bff at the time, who I also dated for 5 years. Even though we are not a part of each other's lives anymore, I am forever grateful for those experiences. As a depressed teenager, I really needed them and Alexās music. Iāve met him about 6 or 7 times and seen him live at least 10 times. Iām proud of his success, totally different vibe than when I discovered him. I understand why people like the music so much! It's the same reasons that appealed to me. Although it will never be the same, I will be a fan until the end of time. My favorite musician of all time, no one compares!!! I feel so happy today :) My top tracks from Headlights: Bounce Boy, Far and Wide, Louisiana, and Spinning, but I love them all!!! I will be listening to this album on repeat. Music Is Awesome And Brings People Together š„²
I am absolutely in love with this site. Better yet, I am very happy to see a lot of folks recommend music I have heard of or never listened to. I just wanted to put this out first before I go into a huge spiel. I am a huge fan of Jason Molinaās work, and every year, I take a listen to the majority of his catalogue works, from his solo, and two bands he created. What surprises me is that this is brutally honest music that havenāt reached a lot of people, but whatās great about this is when somebody knows who I am talking about, they get it. I wanted to share his music and promise whoever sees this that theyāre in for a treat. Jason Molina had the promise of making music now if he didnāt die so early. What he left behind were countless gems for people to discover and enjoy. You donāt go looking for Molinaās music. His music finds you.
insanely fresh and deeply inspiring. i havenāt gotten sick of running this record front to back over and over.
dream collab honestly but maybe im too fanned out, I went to their NYC show and gave him a burned CD of the album iām working on, spent a ton of time putting stickers and drawings in the liner notes.
Have you ever heard music that evokes a deep personal connection with the artist? iād love to hear about yours. a song you heard and said fuck yes i couldāve made this, I would have made this, like the song is reading your mind.
not out of jealousy that you DIDNT make it, but purely out of inspired admiration.
the last word i wrote down in my list is maelstrom! i think i have like 100 words written down, some of them repeated without meaning to... i like words a lot and there are many i wish to remember and immortalize. whatās a word you never want to forget?
