Songs: Ohia. Magnolia Electric Co. Solo. Prolific songwriter who blended indie rock, blues, country, Americana and other sub genres of rock to create his unique sound. There’s no wrong place to start with his discography but some of my favorite tracks are: O! Grace (amazing sax solo), The Dark Don’t Hide It (gritty), all of “Didn’t It Rain” (last three tracks are a sad beautiful journey), Lioness (for the romantics), Alone With The Owl (you can really get a sense of how good his voice was here). RIP 1973 - 2013

I’m new to the legend that is Jason Molina, having discovered him through the announcement of a tribute covers album dedicated to him. But I have fallen fast in love with his work. His songs can be seen as similar in tone to elliot smith, sparklehorse, sun kil moon. but molina has something so special about his songwriting and voice, he carries a depth of emotion like no other and creates such a mythical and visceral world through his songwriting. these songs have found a home in the shadowy weird vunerable corners of my southern gothic loving heart. must listen for anyone that like sad music or folk music or anything of the sort. now that i’ve found him i will be keeping him close to my heart, and he will be inspiring my songwriting forever.

I am absolutely in love with this site. Better yet, I am very happy to see a lot of folks recommend music I have heard of or never listened to. I just wanted to put this out first before I go into a huge spiel.
I am a huge fan of Jason Molina’s work, and every year, I take a listen to the majority of his catalogue works, from his solo, and two bands he created. What surprises me is that this is brutally honest music that haven’t reached a lot of people, but what’s great about this is when somebody knows who I am talking about, they get it.
I wanted to share his music and promise whoever sees this that they’re in for a treat.
Jason Molina had the promise of making music now if he didn’t die so early. What he left behind were countless gems for people to discover and enjoy.
You don’t go looking for Molina’s music. His music finds you.

also ka’s “descendants of cain” ...truthfully almost all his discography lately. it’s nearly all i’ve been listening to. his death has really hit me hard as of late…he was such a gifted wordsmith. master of the concept album. his flow truly feels all knowing, timeless and introspective.
