today i met up with a friend for lunch and coffee in my neighborhood and i told him beforehand i’d be showing up without a phone and i said when and where i’ll meet him. i left my apartment with nothing but my keys and credit card. we spent 3 hours yapping with no phones in sight (except when i asked him to google some statistical facts we had to check which were pertinent to the conversation). it was fucking awesome i felt so free i didn’t even WANT this god damn device on me. it usually just stresses me out when i have my phone on me because i end up constantly checking if it’s still in my pocket in case it’s been stolen or something... but i was free today… to be in the sun… zero technology… highly recommend…
recent mental health booster I stumbled onto when my phone ended up dead one morning, so I went to a cafe near me to journal/read for a couple hours without it. there were so many times I phantom reached for my it like the addict I am, very glad I couldn’t that day or else stupid things would have been done. I was forced to sit in the moment and process my thoughts without being able to actively do anything or contact anyone. did it the next day purposely and I had such a good day.
leave your phone at home sometimes when you’re bumming around your area doing small errands! also forces you to learn your surroundings rather than relying on google maps.
Left my phone at home yesterday before running errands/going to hang out with friends. shit was actually such a good mistake.
I was icking myself out because my boyfriend and I were walking my dog and the entire time I was walking with a firm grip on my phone. It was a totally unnecessary item in that moment. I had no one I needed to call at that specific time, no reason really for it to be on my person. Yet I couldn’t not bring it.
I left it at home on accident the second time we left, and it was actually so freeing. my anxiety was so calmed because I didn’t feel obligated to be doing anything besides living in the moment/being present. Ended up walking to the store, caught a movie with friends, and hung out with them after. It felt like I was back in middle/high school when plans with your friends kind of just happened because not even everyone had cell phones then. Idk it was just a really chill time and so I highly recommend leaving your phone at home if it’s not a complete necessity. you might be surprised to find you really don’t need to have it 24/7
this is worthy of celebration: the lack of video—autoplay video, noisy inane video, panicky video, algorithmic, dumb video, rabbit hole video, any video—on pi.fyi is a good thing
