I was lucky enough to see the premiere of it at Sundance for their midnight showing. I knew nothing. Ari Aster introduced it and apologized for it not being totally finished (there were a couple scenes where they hadn’t edited out strings and stuff).
I couldn’t get it out of my head for a month.

I saw it Thursday before opening weekend with a crowd who wanted to be there and it was absolutely nuts, and then the next day I saw it opening night with a bunch of high schoolers in my showing and it was a blast.
The answer I wish I could give is The Substance because I cannot even fathom how insane it would have been to witness and experience that fucking movie with 30 other people.

You probably have seen this movie by now because obviously, it is very popular. I was looking for something to watch and that popped up, and I briefly considered watching it but only for a moment.
I saw this movie with my husband in the theaters. I was expecting to be scared but instead, I was overwhelmed with the pain, grief, and trauma for the almost entire movie. The scene where the mom is yelling at Peter absolutely gutted me. I cried basically the whole time, even into the credits. I kind of missed all of the scary stuff because I was just weeping (lol).
I have watched it once since then, and it still was very disturbing to me, but I was able to pick up on the horror of it as well. It is amazing film, and I will probably never watch it again.
