I saw it Thursday before opening weekend with a crowd who wanted to be there and it was absolutely nuts, and then the next day I saw it opening night with a bunch of high schoolers in my showing and it was a blast. The answer I wish I could give is The Substance because I cannot even fathom how insane it would have been to witness and experience that fucking movie with 30 other people.

Hereditary at sundance

I was lucky enough to see the premiere of it at Sundance for their midnight showing. I knew nothing. Ari Aster introduced it and apologized for it not being totally finished (there were a couple scenes where they hadn’t edited out strings and stuff). I couldn’t get it out of my head for a month.

The substance

This movie in a packed theater was so much fun. Everyone was gasping and also laughing. Incredible movie watching experience.

The beach boys - holland (1973)

In the BBs‘ tumultuous early 70s period, they decided to leave the Cali shore for - the Netherlands. They brought a whole entourage & reassembled a soundboard built for them in LA, leading to one of the most expensive records made at the time. Stand outs are the moody and strangely heavy “Steamboat,” the mini rock opera “California Saga,” the rollicking “The Trader,” and the closer “Funky Pretty,” a strange but tuneful pop song that only could’ve come from Brian Wilson’s beautiful and deteriorating mind.
