Went through a period like this recently, it helps to think of it as an opportunity to learn about yourself and discover new things that you enjoy. I think part of this is recognition that maybe you’ve grown and you no longer get the same enjoyment out of things that you used to really like. That’s ok! take some time to try new activities or hobbies. Pick up new ones and drop old ones as much as needed. As you try new things, try and reflect on what you like about them or whether it’s giving you what you hope to get out of it. As you’re trying these new things, go back to the old and see if it sparks joy like it once did. Try to approach it from the perspective of learning more about yourself rather than trying to fit yourself into a mold that you may have outgrown.

reinvention for the sake of reinvention is silly. I'm sure you're a cool person as is, and change and growth are good, but you shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater and just randomize a new set of hobbies and personality traits and whole vibe... figure out what values you're committed to, figure out what you like about yourself, figure out what traits you value in others... explore, meet people, learn from their perspectives, keep an open mind, try new things. Explore art in different media--it doesn't have to be fine portraits and sculptures... sometimes you just go from being a TV person to being a movie person and movies start to give you new perspectives. but don't just pick up personality traits ad-hoc. keep a focus on who you want to be and stay directed towards that goal. explore, but don't get distracted, don't get lost.

There’s a term I learned that I have found very useful- insight junkies. It is when a person in therapy seeks more and more insight, but never actually heals or transforms any of it. This can be kind of an issue is straight talk therapy- okay we’ve identified the issue, now what? When you clean out a wound, you need to stop messing with it in order for it to heal. It needs to have some air to breathe. That’s never going to happen if you keep picking at it. Try things on. Get playful. Make mistakes. TAKE ACTION! Change is not supposed to be easy or comfortable, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be fun and exciting.

crazy how your very being can just drift away sometimes… but it’s always a great feeling to notice it and begin tracking yourself down once more
