If you're a STEM major student, you'll know how important it is to have research experience. If you're a STEM major student from a "third world country" you'll also know how limited the resources are for getting said experience. I see people doing research on cool things in all of these fields that I highly enjoy and I worry that I may never get the opportunity to do all of this cool research under cool labs. I worry that I may never get the chance to do what I love and settle into a boring unexciting life for the sake of being financially safe. This is merely a rant + a fuck you and a gigantic middle finger to capitalism

It’s weird because you’re told that you’re smart, in gifted and talented classes, praised but only when you do well in your studies. Your desire to feel praise and love from your parents leads you down to study the sciences even though you really wanted to study geography at university. covid hits the year you graduate and it’s hard to find a job! a good 2/3 years pass of fruitless attempts to find a job in the scientific field. so you go and study for your Masters in Oncoimmunology hoping it’ll be enough academic experience to land you an entry job but it’s not and no one cares that you studied hard and no one care that you love your area of research. it’s a tough market atp i just wanna be a home maker so I can play video games all day and hire a cleaner. Ive been feeling sososo dejected recently from applying to jobs, have a first class masters but no experience so no one wants to hire you? like damn bitch come teach me??? ME???

Even if you study the statistically highest earning major, that doesn’t guarantee you a job. Unless you’re going for something ultra specific, most jobs just want to see that you have the guts to finish a degree, it doesn’t matter so much what it is. If you have a passion, follow it! It’ll make your time in school that much more enjoyable. I started college majoring in materials sciences and engineering at a big ten school bc math was my best subject but I was miserableeeee. I thought I had to do the hardest degree possible to be successful in life and I come from a long line of engineers. Now, I feel like I’m following some sort of calling studying apparel at a tech school. Even though it’s not as promising statistically. We’re all gonna die someday anyway. Also!!! I majorly recommend taking a gap year. That year of real life outside of an academic setting can really sheepdog your priorities.

i'm in community college rn, i had a rough time in high school so i figured id do two catchup/gen ed years before finishing up my degree at a 4 year. we all know its college app season/college result season and oh my god guys i keep seeing these high schoolers shooting for 8% acceptance rate universities and not settling for anything less. like i get it, i do. but am i the only one whos seeing an uptick of kids just applying places just to say they got in ? i feel like i ask a lot of these people about what they want to do/what they're passionate about and why they're majoring in what they're majoring in and they just give me a blank stare. can we PLEASE normalize saving money and taking your time ? you have the rest of your life to work and be miserable paying taxes and pulling your weight at a 9-5. there's literally no shame in community, and I'm so sick and tired of people thinking there is. if you don't know what you want to do, you're allowed to take the time to get there. it's honestly worse to settle on a mediocre major that you don't particularly like just to get your degree faster and say you graduated on time. high school really doesn't give you the time to decide these things so once you reach adulthood it's your responsibility to allocate your time towards it. i really want to see more kids soul searching in a meaningful and responsible way. and if you know what you wanna do and you got into your 8% acceptance rate dream school, more power to you. I'm just saying that seeing a case like that is rare these days and people deserve the time to think and absorb their new responsibilities.

What privilege it is to wake up to the beautiful sun rays beaming from my windows to lighten up my room. What privilege is it that these same windows are bringing a beautiful breeze that tickles my body. What privilege that the same beautiful room decorated by sun shine is the same room that brings me comfort and rest. A space where my self can come out safely. What privilege it is to have a self that is actively taking me to places where I can indulge in delicious foods, listen to eargasmic music, acquire knowledge and be engulfed by the beauty of the life. It is these things that make up the root of my existence, the reason to my being. May I continue to indulge in the beautiness of the otherwise mundane.

I think the idea of hating on trendy things for the sake of wanting to be seen as different is very corny. I understand that not developing your own sense of style and copying whatever you see on tiktok or ig without adding your personal touch is an indicator of the lack of creativity, but that (imo) doesn't apply to people that genuinely like the item/style...If you for example like sambas or the leopard print baggy jeans and can get multiple uses out of them then that's great! you're not a microtrend final boss if you wear these items...

No matter how hard or uncomfortable it is, you have to sit with them, you have to listen to your voices....And if you have the mental energy to do so, write them down. Often times, the feelings you dismiss as minor end up having the most impact on your overall health (be it mental or physical)....Your body can feel when you're suppressing your emotions and it unfortunately makes you prone to diseases and disorders (believe me, I am currently being diagnosed for crohn's)...You also become more agitated and exhausted without knowing why.... These repressed feelings can be in the form of burn-outs, intrusive thoughts, anxieties, or any strong emotion you face throughout the day. Regardless, you have to address them...
