ā€All these formal and esthetic elements of the novel have been studied by scholars and taught to the generations of students who have read The Stranger for school since the 1950s-often as their first intense literary experience in an AP English courseā€ I did in fact read this book in AP Lit, and the proceeded to let it entirely alter my personality and beliefs ever since. The page before (literally page 1 of the entire book) she writes, ā€œMy experience teaching The Stranger, and giving talks about the novel, is that everyone in the room has read it-usually twice.ā€ Yes, I have read it twice. I actually bought this book to help me write and essay called ā€Camus and Meā€ where I talk about my life in relation to where I was when I read each piece of Camus that I have read thus far, beginning with my first reading of The Stranger, and ending with my second reading of The Stranger. Alice Kaplan, I am asking you kindly to get out of my head. (:

short story about a girl stuck in a time loop and learning to kill everyone in said time loop really quickly, admittedly i did read for the first time bc of a jacob geller video essay on time loop nihilism (also very good) but its one of those things that has stuck with me and i’m not quite sure why. if i was an english teacher i would force my class to read and analyze it so do what you want with that

I read this book in high school and I would certainly classify this one as weird. The whole book kinda just had me questioning everything and has an Oedipus Rex thing going on. I didn’t think I would like it initially, but once I finished the book it was funny to look back on. Very strange though! 😭

Longtime lover of J.D. Salinger here, but this, his most famous book, which I read years ago, was never my favorite of his work. But last week I checked it out from the library and found it to be an absolute delight. Funny, irreverent, acerbic, and sweet — a snapshot of the icy angst hiding beneath glossy 1950s America. (Oh, and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath is another essential read from the same sensibility.)

Why not go through the process of blending those images yourself? Why not use process as an experiment? Why AI? What part are you playing? What makes it yours? I think AI is impersonal. I think it is unethical when it has relied on the theft of actual people’s actual physical (and because of the nature of art, often time emotional) labor. I also think it is unnecessary in creating art. I also think the environmental impacts are atrocious. I also think AI’s biggest supporters are being maliciously ignorant because it’s a fun new toy. Is it ease? Is it efficiency? People talk about accessibility as if children don’t use crayons and stickers! As if graffiti artists don’t use postal labels as sticker, as if sand mandalas don’t exist, as if cardboard and tape aren’t in over abundance.

Maybe this isn’t so much a fix for staff, but I feel like the reposting of things has gotten a bit lame. I don’t want the ā€œEveryoneā€ feed to be the same post 20 times with nothing added, especially when the thing being re-rec’d isn’t even a real reccomendation in the first place. I like this app because it is different than Instagram and Twitter and tumblr and the like. I feel like people are trying to interact similarly to those other apps here. I feel like we are all drifting back into creating the same social media AGAIN. My vote would be to remove the feature entirely, but I see how it can be used thoughtfully
