Cover up the cheap flooring and beige paint your landlord chose
And keep the place clean. I think this is the least expensive and most impactful thing you can do really.

Does a framed 2003 OOR magazine with Thom Yorke on the cover count as art? But yes that reminds me that we also were looking at rugs. Just hard to find one big enough for a decent price (without it looking horrible). I will focus on it a little more.

@JAHNNEKE Art can be whatever you like! I think if it’s framed and hung thoughtfully it makes a place feel more like home and less rented/temporary. For a rug, Ikea or used, of course. Maybe look for estate sales. Have fun!

Unless this is like a temporary apartment or something, paint and the like are the type of thing that shouldn’t be done as cheaply as possible. Don’t spend 4 figures on paint but get a decent/mid tier brand that you think you will like looking at every day. Test on a small area first, test a few different types even. Take your time and do it in a day with low humidity so it actually dries. Do more than one coat if you have to. I don’t think a whole room for under $100 is even possible unless you’re stealing from construction sites.

So much that goes into this… consider the colors outside that you can see through the windows, the natural colors of your local environment, any particular seasonal colors you find yourself gravitating towards (I love autumnal tones)! And don’t forget about paint finish and textural application techniques 😍
If you live in a particularly sunny/warm or gloomy/rainy environment and want to counteract or enhance those pick colors accordingly. I would also suggest looking into color psychology like if you’re depressed a lot of the time and would like to feel uplifted use bright sunny colors but if you often feel anxious and want to feel more sedated choose something less mentally stimulating.
Pick colors that would look good with the furniture and art you have or want to have… Curtains and rugs can be a beautiful way to add large swaths of color and texture too…. I love light filtered through a pink orange or golden curtain! And you cannot go wrong with deep rich jewel toned walls in different colors for every room if you want something impactful imo.
I’m sick in the head so I always love a good crisp white wall and adding color everywhere else. The walls in my rental house (I am NOT going to paint) are mostly varying shades of blue and gray which I thought I would hate but surprisingly I love them and find them soothing. I have a little sunroom with pale green walls that looks out into a lush verdant backyard with gorgeous trees and I love that combination!
GO CRAZY WITH FREE PAINT CHIPS tape them all up on the walls and see what clicks for you!!

I already responded but this is a really big one. Homes used to be COZY!!!! My parents over the years have subscribed to the awful “magazine” style interior decorating like you see everywhere. They pulled out so many rugs and all the wallpaper. Fortunately they have a decent sense of decoration, our walls are covered in interesting things. Despite that the whole house used to be a lot more comfortable.. new style couches are awful and made to be looked at.. we have an island with awkward bar chairs that are uncomfortable and impractical.. I think this is an issue with new furniture in general, nothing is made for comfort. I miss having rug floors in my bedroom to lay on.. hardwood or tile is just not it.

I’m not sure why, I guess things ending are sad. Here’s a self portrait I made in charcoal. The proportions are wonky but it kinda looks like me!

The occupation persists, the oppression persists, the torture persists.
The occupiers are psychotic and their work is never finished. People who’ve paid attention won’t be surprised by this photo from Gaza.

I’m 50, I say because that makes me unusual in this context. I paid [redacted] for a ticket to the Eras Tour after listening to tswift for 3 weeks, and it was worth it. In second grade my teacher gave kids birthday spankings over her knee, and in sixth grade my teacher told my mom I hadn’t blossomed yet. I’m a good friend, mostly to people on the internet. I’m good at conversing with strangers. I’m usually the oldest person at the show but don’t feel like it. I’m good at being helpful. I’m sarcastic and funny and make myself laugh. I’m a good graphic designer and a conscientious driver. I’m a good photographer and I can successfully follow recipes. I don’t use my Peloton enough. I did a lot of caregiving for my mom for several years, and we enjoyed spending time together even if it was mostly in waiting rooms and my car. The fastest I ever ran a mile was eight minutes and six seconds. I drove the same car for 20 years and then replaced it with another one. I enjoy tipping, giving money to people on the street and Disneyland. I am a fan of baseball, Formula 1 racing and the Criterion Channel. I solve about 80% of New York Times crosswords. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin, and take Trazodone to sleep through the night. I wish I had a glassed in solarium so I could sleep in it on rainy nights. I would like to have a pet cat and a garage. I could happily live eating only cereal and fruit. I overshare on the internet and undershare elsewhere. ✌️💛
