I really believe our names shape our lives. not just what people call you, but how the world sees you, responds to you, reflects you back to yourself. If mine was different, I don’t think I’d be the same person at all. maybe nothing around me would be the same either. It sounds unhinged but I don’t care. and yeah, it keeps me up at night more than it should

I think about this all the time! Especially because I have an incredibly common name and it feels strange that it’s my name, but also it isn’t really.

@OLAFTHESWEDE Imagine putting 100 people with your name in a room and comparing lives. Same name, totally different stories… or maybe not

I could probably change my name but I wouldn't really want to? Plus after more than 20 years responding to the same name it would be a struggle to see myself as a different name.
Regardless, I'm a major fan of do what you want. And if you're attached to your name and don't want to change it then who cares whether most people agree or disagree. It's your name. It would be inauthentic for you to do anything else with it.

I’ve thought about committing to going by my middle name when moving to a new place because of how much my identity is tied to my name. I never do though, because I can be whoever I want despite my subconscious connection and response to my own name. I think it can be an active thing you shift in your mind- to rebrand yourself while keeping the name. Changing it for good might just fast track that rebrand.

I personally don’t really have a connection to my name but I’ve always found that when I mention that to people they find me weird. Our names are tied to so many different parts of us so I don’t think you’re wrong at all for feeling connected to your name and not wanting to change it. Especially since ur named after such an important figure in modern media 🐾

this is one of the few places online that actually feels good to use. I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much, but it’s thoughtful, chill, and way more human than the usual social apps.

Honestly, most people I know aren’t really thinking about it that deeply. Everyone’s just tired, and if AI helps get stuff off their plate quicker, they’re gonna use it.

Lately I’ve been diving headfirst into things I’d usually ignore. random creative ideas, new communities, reading things I’d usually scroll past. Not all of it makes sense, but something about the mess feels electric. It’s not clarity, but it’s motion. And sometimes that’s all you need to shake things up.
PS: Just personal stuff, not work.
