I’ve grown lots of different native plants in a greenhouse setting, but have learned the hard way that some species cannot and will not be grown inside!! Always have to pay my respects to these baddies when I see them in the wild 🫶🏻 Here is Argemone polyanthemos - thistle poppy 🤍
I put a bunch of perennial seedlings in the ground last week and then we ended up getting a couple inches of snow and I was so sad thinking they’d be goners - but I checked on them today and they’re completely fine!! Picking plants that are adapted to your environment will never steer you wrong <3
(Pictured are Thermopsis and Cleome seedlings growing in front of some flowering Linum lewisii we put in last year)
A lot of “native” wildflower mixes have tons of bullshit invasives in them - definitely look into what seeds you’re actually buying !! Also throwing out seeds/installing plants and then never going back to water them … not swag. That being said, I think it’s dope when done with intention and most cities have groups of gardeners committed to food justice and native plants that are helpful to link up with!
Transplanted my perennial seedlings today ! I’m growing Penstemon grandiflorus, Penstemon strictus, Ratibida columnifera, Thermopsis caroliniana, Monarda citriodora, and Helenium hoopesii ! (there will inevitably be more bc I have no control 🤗)
