This is actually incredible. Serious retro nerd shit. The rotoscope animation is pure, janky and beautiful and at times this film is genuinely creepy. The backdrops remind me of looking at old video game inserts from the 90s. It’s also really hilarious occasionally, especially when compared scene-for-scene with Jacksons trilogy. It has an absurd lofi magic and the acting has this calming nostalgic BBC budget radio drama quality (John Hurt is the voice of Aragorn). Sadly they never finished the planned sequel to this - one day it should happen. Make it. Make it for me.

It’s come to my attention recently that not everyone has seen these movies. If that’s you that’s ok!! I understand not everyone vibes with fantasy as a genre. However!!! If you believe in the power of friendship and incredible, painstakingly thoughtful filmmaking, they are worth a try. If you are already a fan, maybe it’s time for a rewatch and maybe gently invite a hesitant friend who is new to it all. The end of Return of the King always makes me cry

This 1970-something animated movie is available on Youtube in full as well as some archival sites. I watched it for the first time with a date, and as one Letterboxd user states, it was “more intimate than anal”. I don’t even care to spoil or preface it for you, I’ll just say it’s got some spectacular watercolor art animations and great tattoo ideas.

Song are just great. The dbs/The Cars/The Nerves/Buzzcocks ect. Very refreshing occasionally to listen to craft that has little overthought. Big fan of hearing something that isn’t trying to be experimental Or cutting edge occasionally. Just songs. Songs are great.
