It’s come to my attention recently that not everyone has seen these movies. If that’s you that’s ok!! I understand not everyone vibes with fantasy as a genre. However!!! If you believe in the power of friendship and incredible, painstakingly thoughtful filmmaking, they are worth a try. If you are already a fan, maybe it’s time for a rewatch and maybe gently invite a hesitant friend who is new to it all. The end of Return of the King always makes me cry
I’ve developed an addiction to watching first time viewers live reactions to the entire trilogy on YouTube. There’s so many of these and they’re all incredible. I get so much second-hand joy from it. Can’t recommend enough.
literally one of the most awarded film franchises of all time and yet (!!!) it feels underrated. we watch the extended trilogy every Christmas and it never fails to warm my cold dead heart.
i love nothing more than coming home drunk from the bar and putting on fellowship only to pass out in the first 15 minutes. i have seen the whole movies probably dozens of times, but the first 15 minutes of fellowship somewhere in the hundreds.
ktrnaa a comfort watch even and especially in the drunkest of times. I was once at a hotel rooftop in Arizona with terrible vibes, but I stayed just bc they were playing LOTR on a TV behind the bar. Every bar should do this.
This is actually incredible. Serious retro nerd shit. The rotoscope animation is pure, janky and beautiful and at times this film is genuinely creepy. The backdrops remind me of looking at old video game inserts from the 90s. It’s also really hilarious occasionally, especially when compared scene-for-scene with Jacksons trilogy. It has an absurd lofi magic and the acting has this calming nostalgic BBC budget radio drama quality (John Hurt is the voice of Aragorn). Sadly they never finished the planned sequel to this - one day it should happen. Make it. Make it for me.
Revisited these when babysitting my 7 year old half brother. He had never seen them, so I’ve been showing him a new one every night. God these are all such masterpieces and are films that I think grow a deeper understanding and appreciation with age. I am just so in awe of animation and those who dedicate their lives to mastering it.
I’ve done this every time I’ve found myself between full time jobs and it really makes the whole time better. You have a little money coming in and you can collect material for your future memoir. Some odd jobs from my past: Axe throwing coach
Closet designer
Lunch catering delivery
Balloon bouquet maker
Background extra i found them on big job boards like indeed and also Craigslist (Searching “part time” gets you less garbage results). If you hate it after you start you can just quit! Also if you like pets, signing up for dog walking or petsitting will keep you active and you get to hang out with pets.
I love doing this, it’s wonderfully disorienting. Theres still so much day left afterwards it’s basically a whole new day, like an optical illusion, but of time.
Shopping cart with a bad wheel.
Sock slipping down your shoe.
The day after you burn your tongue when it’s still all sensitive.
An eye twitch.
bad toilet paper (thin, scratchy).
clothing tag that itches.
Really strong static shock that makes you jump.
getting perfume in your mouth.
