When I was 19, my friend introduced me to The Talking Heads. I hated them immediately. I loathed long rides in his car because it always meant we would be listening to some challenging avant-garde bs my underdeveloped brain wasn’t ready to appreciate. B always told me when I got older I would understand. He was correct.

i’ve been waiting very patiently to trash talk david byrne on here……..i used to love him until i read chris frantz’s memoir. in the book frantz claims that byrne was essentially a tyrant who refused to give credit to anyone in the band besides himself. sure, david byrne was the face of the talking heads but the backbone was absolutely chris frantz and tina weymouth and so he would be NOTHING without them

I bought this cd a while back. Being someone who casually listened to Talking Heads but never took the time to listen to David‘s solo work, this entire album was a surprise. The best way I can describe it is those pre-911 utopian scholastic books.

After years of loving the Talking Heads I saw that David was touring again for a new solo album. I had admittedly heard very little of his solo stuff but decided to go. If nothing else it was a chance to see a living legend. This was the American Utopia tour (before it had been on Broadway or HBO). It was the most incredible display of joy, dancing, and choreograph set to the sounds of Talking Heads, David‘s solo material and beyond (A very powerful Janelle Monae cover).
