i was in a different college today for rehearsal (st catherine’s) which is like a bleak construction site at the moment because a lot of it was built in the 60s with that concrete that was found to be unsafe. i spent 10 minutes walking around the maze of hedges and scaffolding to find the rehearsal space, only to be greeted with a set of hedges with faces embedded in them. seeing them from afar was genuinely terrifying. apparently one of them is a bust of a young girl who died here. what a haunting memorial.

This story scared me as a kid and still freaks me out now. The idea of finding some freaky rabbit in a field and then having your house get terrorized by some unseen force makes me uneasy. I haven't listened to a ton of supplemental material about the story but I am curious about its origin and its veracity.

There‘s no headless horseman in Sleepy Hollow. Aliens aren’t snatching people up in Pine Bush. The angel statue in Iowa City isn’t killing teenage lovers but the stories give the town personality. So, maybe you start telling people there are fairies under the bridge, or that the fountain in the park stops aging for a day. Maybe it will stick and become a part of real town history.
