I like it. Spotify was doing this anniying thing where it would auto play albums I never listened on my car play. Very embarassing. So I switched to Tidal.
There isn’t as much curation or editorial but apparently the quality of the sound is much better. (Not an audiophile here.) The way Spotify is constantly serving up can creat a bit of an echo chamber. Las Culturistas spoke about this, being tired of their own taste. You’ll have to work harder for novelty but that is sorta fun and this platform’s recommends is a good start.

I’m gonna level with you. If you’re on pi dot fyi at this time, you’re gonna wanna get off Spotify. Head over to tidal.
Audio quality is better than Spotify, they recently reduced their pricing, and if you think “how can I share music with friends” then you can use the new feature that is platform non-specific.
Would you like to live deliciously

Tidal's services cost less, audio quality is superior, pays artists better; has an algorithm that does not filter people to the top grossing artists in their listening genre and is all around excellent, the app is trimmed down, it provides a weekly analysis of your listening (so a more frequent and representative breakdown). Fuck spotify, and if you're not ready to move to a bandcamp only purchase/download + MP3 situations then Tidal is your one. I'm sure this is not a new take, but I will say I am over the moon about the switch so far.

I had tidal for a while. The downsides that I remember are that it's kind of glitchy and slower to load--I had buffering issues that I never had with spotify or apple music. It also has weak playlists... I avoid the official platform playlists (or the auto-suggest algorithm stuff) of any streaming service bc I don't like the thought that artists on certain labels the platform has deals with get pushed more, while other artists get censored... anyways... I like user-made playlists way more and tidal doesn't have much of that iirc. I didn't notice the sound quality actually being much better either. For transfering playlists i use a paid app called playlisty. i was annoyed to have to pay for it but it was like $2 one time payment and it does the job perfectly (no playlist size limits) and i use it all the time so imo it's worth it. Have you heard of soulseek? It's a great free app for downloading music. You could forego streaming and just have a huge mp3 collection :3 like back in the day... *wisful gaze* I hear the youtube music catalogue has the most breadth, personally if i didn't get apple music for free atm i would probably try that but never actually used it so i can't rec it.
