Aside from math, foreign languages were my absolute worst subject in school. It was never taught in a way that made sense to me (Why am I learning grammatical rules before I can actually converse with someone?) I've subsequently never forced myself to start on it.
You definitely should force yourself. People who learn languages tend to develop better social abilities, more empathy and are able to prevent diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s. You’re constantly exercising your brain. It’s good for you <3
My Latin class was cancelled two days before the start of this semester, so I had to scramble to find any open language section that would take me. An impossibly cruel stroke of misfortune placed me in a French course. Now, even after this waking hell is over, I have to take ANOTHER consecutive semester of it as a requirement for my linguistics degree. The cancellation of that Latin class effectively bound me to a year of learning a language I have no practical or academic interest in or use for. Thanks PCC!
Languages are my weak-spot. I find them very difficult to learn and don’t enjoy learning them but I realllyyyy wish I could. maybe now I’ve learnt how to play chess a language will be my next “thing I’m bad at” to do? i would like to learn sight language but that’s really hard to do without an in person teacher, so maybe I’ll learn Spanish
My high school French teacher made me hate learning languages. But now that I’m an adult, I’ve realized I can learn whatever language I want, in whatever way works for me. So I’m healing my inner teenager now by learning a language I actually want to learn on my own terms.
Also is it just me, or does anyone else kind of miss taking vocabulary tests?
Everybody meet Tomato! (government name: Chloe) She is a very very shy but sweet little lady who is one year old. I already feel like we're kindred spirits because we both take a while to warm to people. She is currently sitting comfortably with the dust bunnies under my bed.
